Capital and Innovation Program

Overview:

The Capital and Innovation Program supports community-owned infrastructure and knowledge-based projects that strengthen economic development, community wellbeing, and long-term sustainability in coastal communities. Through this program, the Island Coastal Economic Trust invests in projects that help communities diversify local economies, build climate resilience, create new revenue opportunities, and develop lasting community assets.

The program encourages collaborative partnerships and supports projects that generate meaningful economic and social benefits for communities across the region.

Funding Amount:

  • Funding of up to $200,000 is available per project.
  • Funding supports public and community-owned capital projects and knowledge infrastructure initiatives.
  • Projects should demonstrate long-term sustainability and community benefit.

Eligibility / Who It’s For:

Eligible applicants include:

  • First Nations governments, bands, and First Nation-controlled corporations
  • Municipal governments
  • Regional districts
  • Registered charities
  • Registered non-profit organizations
  • Local community-based organizations
  • Economic development organizations
  • Industry associations
  • Regional and sector organizations
  • Educational organizations and institutions

The program does not fund individuals or private businesses directly; however, partnerships involving the private sector may be eligible when the project serves a broader public or community benefit.
