Indigenous Habitat Participation Program: Consultation Component

Overview:

The Indigenous Habitat Participation Program (IHPP) helps Indigenous Nations and rights-holding groups participate in consultation activities related to Fisheries and Oceans Canada decisions under the Fisheries Act and Species at Risk Act. Funding supports communities in reviewing proposed projects, participating in consultations, and assessing potential impacts on Aboriginal and treaty rights.

Funding Amount:

• Funding is available based on the scope of consultation activities.
• Applications requesting up to $21,000 are given priority.
• Requests over $21,000 may be considered for complex consultation activities.
• Administrative costs of up to 15% of the total grant amount are eligible.

Eligibility / Who It’s For:

Eligible applicants include:

• Indigenous governments
• First Nations communities, bands, and settlements
• Tribal councils and chiefs’ councils
• Indigenous organizations representing rights-holding communities

Applicants must:

• Have potential or established Aboriginal or treaty rights.
• Have received a consultation notification from Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
• Be potentially affected by a Fisheries Act or Species at Risk Act regulatory decision.
