On-Reserve Income Assistance Program

Overview:
The On-Reserve Income Assistance Program provides financial support to eligible individuals and families living on reserve, as well as Status Indians residing in Yukon, who are unable to meet their basic living needs. As a program of last resort, it helps cover essential daily living expenses while also providing pre-employment and employment supports that help individuals build skills, prepare for work, and move toward greater self-sufficiency.

Funding Amount:
Funding varies based on an individual’s assessed needs and the income assistance rates established by their province or Yukon.

Support may include:

• Basic needs assistance (food, clothing, shelter, utilities)
• Disability income supports
• Special needs assistance
• Employment and pre-employment supports
• Program delivery costs for eligible service providers

Eligibility / Who It’s For:
Funding is provided to:

• First Nations communities
• First Nations organizations
• Other eligible service providers

These recipients then deliver the program to eligible individuals.

To qualify for income assistance, individuals must:

• Be ordinarily resident on reserve or a Status Indian living in Yukon
• Demonstrate financial need
• Meet provincial or Yukon eligibility requirements for assistance
