Band Support Funding

Overview:
Band Support Funding helps First Nations cover the costs of local government and administering services funded by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC). The program provides a stable funding base to support effective community governance and efficient service delivery.

Funding is provided as a grant rather than a contribution agreement, giving First Nations flexibility to distribute funds according to their individual needs and priorities.

Funding Amount:
The maximum funding available to each First Nation is determined through a funding formula that considers factors including population, services managed, agreements, capital projects, staffing requirements and geographic conditions.

Any First Nation, referred to as an “Indian band” under the Indian Act, is eligible, whether or not it is located on a reserve.
