New Fiscal Relationship Grant
Overview
The New Fiscal Relationship (NFR) Grant is an optional Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) funding mechanism designed to provide First Nations, Tribal Councils, and First Nations–led service delivery organizations with long-term, flexible, and predictable funding. The grant aims to strengthen self-determination, reduce administrative burden, and improve financial stability across multiple programs and services.
Funding Amount
Varies depending on community size and eligible programs (up to 28 programs and services). Funding agreements are renewable for up to 10 years. Includes an annual funding escalator (minimum 2% per year; recent escalations have been higher, e.g., 5.1% in 2024–25).
Eligibility / Who It’s For
- First Nations operating under the Indian Act
- Tribal Councils (since 2024–25)
- First Nations–led service delivery entities (e.g., health authorities)
Applicants must meet financial performance criteria and have in place a financial administration law or policy.
