Trail Catalyst Fund

Overview:

The Trail Catalyst Fund supports projects that improve, maintain, restore, and strengthen trail networks across Canada. Administered by Trans Canada Trail, the fund helps communities, organizations, and Indigenous groups enhance trail infrastructure, promote environmental stewardship, increase accessibility, support workforce development, and integrate Indigenous knowledge into trail planning and stewardship. The program aims to create a safe, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient trail network for future generations.

Funding Amount:

  • Projects with total costs between $0 and $1,500 may receive funding for up to 100% of eligible project costs.
  • Projects with total costs between $1,501 and $25,000 may receive funding for up to 50% of eligible project costs.
  • Projects with total costs between $25,001 and $40,000 may receive funding for up to 50% of the first $25,000 and up to 35% of remaining eligible costs.
  • Projects with total costs over $40,000 may receive funding for up to 35% of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $60,000 per project per year.
  • Eligible projects may be phased over two years and may receive funding in both years.

Eligibility / Who It’s For:

Eligible applicants include:

  • Organizations that own or manage a section of the Trans Canada Trail
  • Indigenous communities and organizations
  • Trail stewardship organizations
  • Municipalities and community groups
  • Organizations involved in the broader trail sector for eligible funding streams

Applicants must:

  • Carry at least $2 million in general liability insurance
  • Be in good standing with Trans Canada Trail (where applicable)
  • Submit required financial documentation upon project approval
  • Have no more than three active Trail Catalyst Fund projects at one time
